Liverpool’s new signing Andy Carroll has promised to repay the faith shown in him by the club and score the goals that will bring silverware back to Anfield.
The 22-year-old striker arrived on Merseyside on Monday in a £35 million deal from Newcastle United, which has seen him become the club’s record signing.
With Spanish striker Fernando Torres joining Premier League rivals Chelsea in a deal worth £50m, Liverpool's owners wasted no time in breaking the club's transfer record twice in one day – first signing Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez for £22.8m from Ajax, before reaching a deal for Carroll later in the day.
Now Carroll, who has scored 11 goals so far this season and will wear the No.9 shirt at Anfield, is intent on living up to his price tag.
“Liverpool is a massive club which is going places and this is a chance to show what I can do,” Carroll told the Liverpool Daily Post.
“What I did at Newcastle has got me here and now I have to carry it on with Liverpool.
“Goals have always been in my game so I’m very confident I can score for Liverpool.
“I’ll bring as much as I can to the team, I’ll score goals, create chances, hold up the ball and just try my best really.
“Everyone has put their faith in me and it’s nice to have come to a club that has welcomed me like this.
“They have spent a lot of money on getting me here and I just want to repay them for what they have spent.
“I’ll do my best and think I can do it. I want to win trophies with this club and help push us forward.”
